A Brief Look WITH

Psychemedics wanted several short-form animated videos to inform the public about the growing dangers of fentanyl and other emerging drug trends. We created custom 3D visuals and motion graphics, including a striking penny-to-fentanyl comparison, to illustrate how lethal even a minuscule dose of this drug can be. This format was utilized for any future educational videos.

Summary
With fentanyl overdoses on the rise, Psychemedics wanted a high-impact, educational video to inform the public about the extreme dangers of this synthetic opioid. The video was part of their ongoing social media campaign, designed to raise awareness about drug abuse in the workplace and beyond.
Predi Designs developed a visually compelling 3D animation, with custom motion graphics and video editing, to communicate complex but critical information in an easily digestible format. One of the key visuals in this piece was a custom 3D rendering of a penny, highlighting just how little fentanyl it takes to cause a fatal overdose. The clean, professionally designed visuals ensured the message was clear, urgent, and impactful, making it ideal for social media distribution.
Project Goals & Purpose
The 2020 Drug Trends video was created to educate, inform, and potentially save lives. Psychemedics is committed to public safety and workplace drug prevention, and this project was designed to raise awareness about the dangers of fentanyl while providing valuable insight into emerging drug trends.
One of the most shocking facts about fentanyl is how little it takes to be lethal—an amount so small it can fit on a single penny. To drive this point home, we developed a custom 3D model of a penny, integrating animated zoom-ins and overlays to create a visually striking representation of the minuscule lethal dose.
Additionally, we designed the video to be easily adaptable for multiple topics, allowing Psychemedics to swap out footage and text for future educational videos. The goal was to create a high-quality yet flexible video template that could be updated as new drug trends emerged. By utilizing motion graphics, 3D animation, and seamless video editing, we ensured that the message was both engaging and impactful, keeping viewers informed while reinforcing Psychemedics’ role as a trusted industry leader in workplace safety and drug testing.
Challenges
The biggest challenge in this project was simplifying complex information into a short, engaging animation without losing its emotional impact. Fentanyl is a scientifically dense topic, and the goal was to visually communicate its dangers in an immediate, visually striking way.
Additionally, ensuring that the video was flexible for future use required a smart, modular design. The animation needed to maintain high production value while being easily customizable for Psychemedics’ ongoing drug awareness initiatives. Lastly, balancing professionalism with visual urgency was crucial—this wasn’t just an informational piece, but a public safety warning, meaning the tone and pacing had to be precise to keep viewers engaged.
Solutions
To meet these challenges, we took a highly strategic approach to animation, focusing on clarity, impact, and adaptability. The penny-to-fentanyl visual was crafted using Keyshot 3D rendering software, ensuring realistic lighting and accurate proportions for maximum impact. The video’s motion graphics were designed to be modular, allowing Psychemedics to update future versions without losing production quality.
We optimized the animation’s length, pacing, and visual elements for social media distribution, ensuring it could quickly grab attention while delivering essential information in a matter of seconds. The final result was a visually striking, highly effective educational video that not only conveyed urgency but also established Psychemedics as a leader in drug awareness and workplace safety.
Client Reception
Psychemedics was extremely pleased with the professional quality, flexibility, and impact of the final animation. The penny visualization was especially well received, as it clearly and effectively communicated a complex yet urgent issue. The adaptability of the animation allowed them to continue using it as part of their ongoing drug awareness campaigns.
